Anga - Contemporary Indian Dance Extracts

'ANGA' limb or body - what is the base of the Indian body in movement?

*New workshop and choreographies I am working on...

I have been training for over 15 years now in Odissi, as well as Kathak, various Folk & 'Gypsy' Dances of Rajasthan, Yoga Vinyasa and now deeply engrossed in Kalarypayattu (martial arts). Seeing the 'Indian body' in movement through quite different lenses, I have discovered some common threads. I'm feeling an EXCITING new chapter of movement as I begin to weave these threads with contemporary dance and the various styles outside of India which I have trained in.

I will be teaching this new work at a few different events this summer, such as:

KAUAI: https://web.facebook.com/events/774454832687519/ Here is more about the workshop: Anga – Contemporary Indian Dance Extracts

Anga, the core body of Indian classical dance and martial arts utilize imaginative combinations of circles, spirals and complex bends. This new workshop draws from years of careful study and intensive training in several traditional movement modalities of India (Kalarypayattu, Yoga Vinyasa, Odissi classical dance, Kathak classical dance and more). Colleena extracts core muscle movements layered with minute details (such as mudra), together with thematic bodylines to create a powerful and fluid new contemporary style....
